Having participated in the opening Barcelona test last week with last year's C34 after time constraints in completing the C35, Sauber will give the Ferrari-powered car its first track outing this week instead.
Sauber's first car to be overseen by technical director Mark Smith, who joined in July 2015, his priority has been to reduce weight and optimise the C35's aerodynamic efficiency.
“For the development of the Sauber C35-Ferrari, we slightly changed the philosophy of how we developed the car aerodynamically," he said. "It sounds little, but the impact on the development of the car is significant. When looking at the Sauber C35, it is very much an evolution,” he adds.
Following a dismal point-less season in 2014, Sauber bounced back in 2015 with a series of points' finishes - including a top five at the Australian GP - in 2015, though a lack of season development would see it end the year eighth overall.
For 2016, Sauber has changed the packaging of the Ferrari power unit, with smaller side-pods and revised bodywork.
“We want to clearly improve," said team principal Monisha Kaltenborn “Obviously, there's a certain position we'd like to achieve. But, to start with, it's important to become established in mid-field. Only then are we going to focus on individual positions.”
Visually, the distinctive blue and yellow livery introduced in 2015 has received only minor sponsor-inspired tweaks.
