Russell Westbrook and the Thunder look to continue their impressive season against the Pelicans.
The Oklahoma City Thunder (26-19) pulled off an impressive win Monday beating the Jazz 97-95. The Thunder trailed most of the game until the 4th quarter where they outscored the Jazz 30-23 to get an impressive win on the road. Behind another triple-double from Russell Westbrook, the Thunder snapped Utah’s 6 games winning streak. Oklahoma City, after winning last night, improve to 26-19 and currently sit as the 6th seed in the West. Along with Westbrook’s impressive performance, shooting guard Victor Oladipo went 8 for 11 from the field and had 18 points and 4 rebounds. After sitting out a couple of games, the Thunder welcomed back Steven Adams who was impressive in limiting Utah’s center Rudy Gobert to 12 points.
The New Orleans Pelicans (18-27) pulled off a huge upset against the Cavaliers on Monday winning 124-122. Without star Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday and Terrence Jones had career games leading the Pelicans to a huge win. Jones, a backup forward for the Pelicans, had a season-high 36 points and 11 rebounds while Holiday had a strong 33 point and 11 assists game. After last night's win, the Pelicans improved to 18-27 and currently sit 1 game from a playoff spot in the West. If the Pelicans can remain healthy throughout the rest of the season they should be in the thick of the playoff race in the West.
Keys to the Game
Oklahoma City Thunder
Even though the Thunder beat the Jazz they still only shot 43.4% from the field, a figure they must improve on if they expect to beat the Pelicans. The good news for the Thunder is that the Pelicans give up 106.1 points per game giving the Thunder a good chance to improve on their poor offensive performance against the Jazz.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans cannot rely on their offense to score 120 points a night so they must play better team defense against the Thunder. Furthermore limiting Russell Westbrook, though a big task, is very important for the Pelicans to have a chance to win this game.
