Torino will hope to keep their European ambitions alive as they welcome Atalanta to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.
The Granata have been in a funk as of late. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have won just one out of their last five fixtures and were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by AC Milan earlier this month. Although they have one of the league’s strongest attacking sides, with their 38 goals only bettered so far by Juventus (42), Roma (42), and Napoli (47), Torino are nowhere near the top three. In fact, they are struggling even to stay in the top half of the table and come into this game in ninth spot.
Fortunately for the hosts, key man Andrea Belotti is again available after serving a ban in the last round. The Italian international arguably is having his breakout season this year. And with 14 goals scored for Torino, it’s no surprise that his club recently placed a €100 million release clause on him in a bid to ward off suitors from the Premier League (and likely other Serie A sides).
Despite their strong attack, their defense lapses have been costing Torino dearly. In both games against Milan that they played in one week, the Granata took the lead, but ended up losing in the Coppa Italia and then drawing in the league fixture. English shot-stopper Joe Hart has been under increasing pressure, who has managed just one clean sheet in his past eight Serie A appearances.
As for Atalanta, they have suffered some wobbles, but La Dea are still going strong. They did lose to Lazio recently, but rebounded with a scrappy 1-0 win over Sampdoria. In that fixture, Gian Piero Gasperini again decided to give youngsters a chance, and fielded two 17 year olds. That made La Dea the first team in Europe’s “Big 5” leagues to have two players born on 1st January 1999 or later to be played in one game.

The Granata certainly don’t like playing early on Sundays: Torino have won only two of their 16 Sunday early matches in Serie A (D7 L7). However, they did beat Roma 3-1 in the early Sunday fixture this past September.
Torino have won five of their last six Serie A home league games against Atalanta (whilst drawing the other).
Overall, Torino have won six of their last nine games against Atalanta in Serie A (D1 L2). But, they lost the reverse fixture earlier this season.
