Forget Wayne Rooney: De Gea injury would be Man Utd's biggest blow yet - The Spain international limped out of the warm-up prior to Thursday's clash with FC Midtjylland and any long-term injury to the goalkeeper would be disastrous for the Red Devils.

David de Gea's injury during the warm-up ahead of Manchester United's Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland on Thursday plunges his side's season to new depths.

Whether the goalkeeper's absence takes United's injury toll to 14, as claimed by Louis van Gaal or the 13 perceived by most observers, one thing which cannot be argued is that the Spaniard has been the club's one world-class performer for large spells of this season.

His loss will ask completely new questions of a United side already decimated by injuries at a time when fixtures are coming thick and fast. Sergio Romero may be a reasonable back-up but he showed at the start of the season that he can be prone to game-changing lapses in concentration.

Make no mistake about it, the extent of De Gea's injury will be bigger news than the result in Denmark as United's season hangs in the balance on the weight of their No.1's fitness.

Is David de Gea's injury potentially the biggest blow yet in United's hapless season?
