REVEALED: Who does Sir Alex Ferguson rate as the best manager in the Premier League? - The legendary former Manchester United boss has told a prominent MP who he believes to be the best manager in England right now.

Sir Alex Ferguson has told a leading MP that Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino is the best manager in the Premier League.

Pochettino has recently been linked with Louis van Gaal’s job at Manchester United, with many drawing comparisons between the Argentine’s style and the long-held philosophies of the Old Trafford club.

And his qualities have not gone unnoticed by the legendary former United boss, according to Member of Parliament for Tottenham, David Lammy.

The Labour MP told The Spurs Show podcast: “I’m going to let you into a secret. About six weeks ago I sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson at a dinner in support of grassroots football abroad.

“He said to me ‘I think you guys have got the best manager in the Premier League.’”

Ferguson’s words will come as another blow to Van Gaal, who has been forced to field a number of difficult questions relating to his future in recent weeks amid speculation former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may be about to take his job.

United have continued to back Van Gaal privately despite the club’s recent slide down to fifth spot in the Premier League, but Mourinho and Pochettino are both thought to be in the frame should the Dutchman fail to get his side back on track between now and the end of the season.

Pochettino has led Tottenham to second place in the Premier League with just three defeats to their name this season, and has nurtured a number of young players who have since made a significant impact in the first team.

The 43-year-old earned a similar reputation in his 18-month stint at Southampton before moving to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014.
