Bale to return, James set to start - how will Real Madrid line up against Roma? - The Wales international could be back in the starting XI at Santiago Bernabeu while Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the forward line with Borja Mayoral left out of the matchday squad.

Real Madrid return to the Champions League on Tuesday knowing it is their only realistic chance of silverware, and despite their lead over Roma, Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to take any chances.

Los Blancos lead 2-0 from the first leg against the Serie A outfit thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jese, and the former is set to lead the line in a central role at Santiago Bernabeu.

Borja Mayoral, who has impressed in Karim Benzema's absence, has not been called up to the squad, meaning Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez will likely offer support to Ronaldo from the flanks.

Elsewhere, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos will return to the starting XI after being rested against Celta Vigo on Saturday while Marcelo has regained his fitness to take his place at left-back.

That means Danilo and Isco will be dropped to the bench, with Casemiro preferred in midfield in a bid to blunt Roma's chances of hitting Zidane's side on the break.
