Barcelona F1 Test [2]: Raikkonen: Why should I be worried?

Barcelona F1 Test [2]: Raikkonen: Why should I be worried? - Kimi Raikkonen has shrugged off the suggestion Mercedes could dominate the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship based on the early signs from pre-season testing.

The Finn enjoyed a productive two days getting acquainted with the new SF16-H, with both himself and team-mate Sebastian Vettel proving quick over the course of the test as Ferrari softer tyres than most of its rivals.

By contrast, Mercedes notched up the mileage between its two drivers without fitting anything quicker than medium compound tyres, raising the suggestion it has a lot of time in hand to reveal when testing resumes in Spain this week.

Despite this, Raikkonen is unbothered by the prospect of Mercedes coming to the fore this week, saying he would rather concentrate on bringing the Ferrari up to speed.

“Why should I be worried? It is something that some other people do, and we do our own stuff. Obviously we would like to have done more laps; it was almost one day out of two (off the track). But it is a part of testing and we are getting ready to go racing, if there are some issues of some things to change or try, we will to it. It is up to us to make sure we are in the right position when we start racing.”

Looking to bounce back this year after an indifferent 2015 campaign, Raikkonen was full of praise for the new machine, describing it as better than last year's machine.

“To get the first feeling of the car and I am sure that there is a lot of potential,” he continued. “It feels better than last year's package, and that was the aim. It is very early days, and we have not done a lot of set-up work with it. For sure we can improve it, so we are just doing the normal work.”
