A tough second game of a back-to-back road set awaits the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night as they’ll head to Oracle Arena to take on the Golden State Warriors for the second time in eight days. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist continues to quietly put together an impressive season, currently averaging 9.2 points on 45.5 percent shooting, a team-high 7.4 rebounds and career-high marks in both blocks (1.0) and steals this year (0.8). The Hornets small forward is also on pace to be the first overall player 6’7” or shorter in nine seasons to average at least 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 offensive rebounds and 1.0 blocks over an entire NBA campaign (Shawn Marion, 2007-08).
Charlotte will need Kidd-Gilchrist to step up huge defensively when he squares off against eight-time All-Star and former NBA MVP Kevin Durant, who finished with a game-high 33 points in Golden State’s win in Charlotte on Jan. 25. The five-time All-NBA First Team honoree is leading the Warriors in scoring (26.3 points; seventh-highest mark in league), rebounding (8.4) and blocks (1.7) so far this season.
The proficiency of the Charlotte Hornets to aggressively contain Durant will be an imperative first step if they want to pull off an upset win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night in Oakland.
