With McLaren desperate to develop the new MP4-31 into a dependable package after repeated problems last season, it appeared the team had made a breakthrough on the opening two days, with Alonso alone completing 119 laps on Tuesday.
However, after a hydraulic problem halted Jenson Button on Wednesday, Alonso didn't get out properly at all on Thursday when a coolant leak developed in the Honda engine.
A disappointing end after such a promising start, Alonso was refusing to be downbeat and remains confident the team will bounce back in the final four-day test.
“It was disappointing day after starting the first couple of days of the test so positively. Still, it's good news that although the issue we had on the car meant we had to miss a lot of today's running, it's not a major problem and will be fixed in time for next week's test.
"Overall, we've managed a good number of laps during this test, which means we have a lot of data to analyse and learn from. Over the weekend we'll work hard to get everything prepared for next week, with the aim of getting as much time on track as possible.”
