Barcelona F1 Pre-season Test [2]: Vettel leads pack as Manor miss out

Barcelona F1 Pre-season Test [2]: Vettel leads pack as Manor miss out -  Sebastian Vettel has picked up from where his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen left off this morning by storming to the top after completing an installation lap with the halo cockpit protector, as Manor Racing spent the entire morning stuck in the garage with a mechanical fault.

The Ferrari driver rolled out the garage with the same cockpit protector unit which Raikkonen debuted yesterday for his installation lap before settling down for the final day of pre-season testing.

After Lewis Hamilton headed the early running, Vettel strapped on the red-banded supersoft tyres to sprint clear of the field with a 1m 22.852s – less than a tenth off Raikkonen's best time on the slower rubber after the Finn set his time on the new ultrasofts.

Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz took on the challenge of hunting the Ferrari down but failed to match Vettel by a quarter of a second on the ultrasofts.

The Mercedes continued to resist the temptation of using the softer tyres as Hamilton completed his pre-season testing with the W07 stopping on track.

Having notched up 69 laps the first chink in the Mercedes armour appeared when the British driver stopped on the main straight due to a transmission problem.

However, further down the paddock Manor Racing suffered a nightmare as Rio Haryanto completed just one lap after missing the morning with a mechanical problem.

Force India's Sergio Perz also enjoyed a blast with a qualifying simulation to post a 1m 23.721s on the red supersoft tyres which produced a sizeable gap to Hamilton and the rest of the field.

Red Bull has completed a solid morning of running taking fifth overall ahead of Jenson Button in the McLaren and Jolyon Palmer in the Renault.
