The Clippers travel to face the surprising red-hot Sixers.
The Los Angeles Clippers (30-16) surprised many by beating the Atlanta Hawks by ten points on the road last night. The Clippers controlled most of the game on their way to an impressive victory behind strong performances from Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford. Coming off a 25-point loss to the Nuggets over the weekend, the Clippers looked rejuvenated in Atlanta without their two All-Star players Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. The Clippers are very much looking forward to tonight’s game against the Sixers as they welcome back Blake Griffin. After a 17 game layoff, the Clippers will look forward to having Griffin's offensive ability back as he averages 21.2 points per game.
The Philadelphia 76ers (15-27) have surprised many fans this season with their resurgent play. Highlighted by two great wins last week against the Raptors and Blazers, the Sixers are on a roll in the month of January. Leading the way for the Sixers is rookie of the year contender Joel Embiid, who has put up impressive numbers this year, averaging 19.8 points while adding 7.8 rebounds per game. Along with Embiid, newly acquired big man Ersan Ilyasova has been having one of the best seasons of his career, averaging 15.5 points per game. Even with their recent success, offensive output has been a problem for the Sixers this year as they average 99 points per game, which is 28th in the NBA.
Keys to the Game
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers must play better team offense if they expect to beat the Sixers in Philadelphia. Coming off poor offensive displays against Minnesota and Denver last week, the Clippers need to find ways to get more consistency on the offensive side of the ball. Getting Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan more touches should give the Clippers a great chance to win in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers defense must find a way to slow down and contain DeAndre Jordan, who is having a strong month - averaging 16.7 points a game and 16.9 rebounds per game - if they stand any chance of winning. Also, the Sixers must get extra offense from Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel, as the Sixers' leading scorer, Joel Embiid, is not playing against the Clippers.
